WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE RIGHT SIZED SYSTEM FOR MY HOME?

Having the wrong-size heating-cooling system can lead to multiple problems. Over-sizing your cooling system is not a good thing. Your cooling load consists of two parts:
  1. The temperature of the air, called the sensible load.
  2. Moisture or “humidity” in the air, called the latent load.
We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s not the heat; it’s the humidity.” A cooling system that is too big cools down the temperature very quickly, but it does not run long enough to remove sufficient moisture or “humidity” from the air. The result is you feel cool but clammy. Many people then turn down the thermostat to make the air conditioner run longer, increasing the utility bill. In some cases, the insufficient moisture removal resulting from over-sized cooling equipment can lead to mold growth and other types of moisture-related damage.

When Should You Repair Your Unit?

When your heating and cooling system is working properly, your home is comfortable and you’re probably not experiencing any significant increase in your monthly utility bills. So when a part malfunctions or your unit stops working, how do you decide if it’s time to repair or replace it? Your local Heil® dealer can provide a thorough diagnosis of your system and make a professional recommendation. To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of factors to consider.
Here are some reasons to repair the unit:
  • The cost of repairs is less than one-third the cost of a replacement
  • The unit is less than 10 years old
  • The unit is still under warranty (see your warranty terms)

When Should You Replace Your Unit?

Replacing all or part of a heating and cooling system can be a big investment. When an older unit has continuous issues or shows signs of reduced energy efficiency, it could be more economical to upgrade your home comfort system. WHAT ARE BTU’S

WHAT IS A SEER RATING?

The efficiency at which air conditioners produce cooling is referred to as its SEER rating. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, and is a ratio of the amount of cooling produced (BTU) divided by the amount of electricity (watts) used. The higher the SEER, the greater the air conditioner’s efficiency. Older air conditioning systems have a SEER rating of 10 or under. Today’s more efficient air conditioning systems have SEER ratings as high as 23. The United States now requires that residential air conditioning systems manufactured after 2005 have a minimum SEER rating of 13

HOW MUCH WILL I SAVE WITH A NEW AC OR FURNACE?

Energy savings vary based on the current SEER rating of your unit, and the rating of the new replacement unit. However, customers replacing older A/C units with SEER ratings as low as 6 or 7 have seen a reduction in energy costs drop by as much as 40%-70%, simply by changing out their old and inefficient air conditioning unit. Couple that with a new, high efficiency, variable speed furnace, and the results can go even higher.
